Why no price list

Why Every Removal Quote Is Different

People often ask us what a three-bed move costs. The honest answer is that it depends. Removal costs in Manchester are shaped by what you own, how far it goes, how easy it is to reach and how much help you want. Two houses on the same street can cost very different amounts to move.

That is why CMR Relocation does not publish a price list. Since 2011, Darrin and the team in Altrincham have priced every move on its own, after seeing what is involved. The quote is free and comes with no obligation.

This guide does something more useful than list numbers. It shows you what drives the price, so you can understand any quote you get. It then shows how to compare two quotes fairly, and how to bring the cost down without cutting corners.

Bigger moves may need two vehicles and a larger crew, which shapes the quote.

Cost drivers

The Eight Things That Decide Your Removal Price

Every quote is built from the same few parts. Knowing them helps you see where the money goes.

Volume and access

Why Volume And Access Matter More Than Bedrooms

Bedrooms are a rough guide, but volume is what fills a van. A tidy two-bed flat may hold less than a two-bed house with a full loft, a garage and a garden shed. That is why a good firm asks to see every space, not just the main rooms.

Access is the next biggest factor. Think about a third-floor flat in Manchester city centre with a small lift that has to be booked. Then think about a bungalow in Sale with the van on the drive. The same sofa takes very different amounts of time to load. Across Manchester you will meet terraces with steep stairs, Victorian semis with narrow halls, and new-build flats with shared lifts and loading rules. Each one changes the time on the job.

Parking matters too. If the van cannot stop outside, each item has a longer walk. Many councils can suspend parking bays for a removal if you apply in good time. Ask your council how early you need to apply, as the process differs between councils.

Special items add time and people. A baby grand piano can weigh about 225 to 545 KG and needs at least three people and floor protection. Our piano removals service plans these separately, and the quote shows it.

Extra services

Packing, Storage And Crates: How Extras Change The Price

The move itself is only part of the price. The extras you choose can change it a lot, so make sure each quote shows them on their own line.

Packing. A full pack is one of the biggest extras, because it takes a crew time. You can save by packing books, clothes and the loft yourself, and leaving the kitchen and fragile items to us. Our packing service can do one room or every room.

Storage. If there is a gap between moving out and moving in, storage is priced by time and space. Our container storage in Broadheath has no minimum term, and most people book at least a month.

Materials. Boxes, paper, tape and wardrobe cartons are often listed apart. For offices, our crate hire is priced on what you need and when.

How To Compare Two Removal Quotes Fairly

The lowest total is often the one that leaves the most out. Line the quotes up and ask the same questions of each.

CheckWhat to look for
SurveyDid the firm see the whole house, in person or on video?
InventoryDoes the quote list the main items, so you can see nothing was missed?
Crew and vehiclesHow many people and vehicles, and is it one day or two?
Packing and materialsIncluded, partly included or extra? Which rooms?
Dismantling and rebuildingAre beds and wardrobes taken apart and put back together?
Special itemsAre the piano, safe or antiques named and priced?
StorageIf needed: how long, what kind, and how you get access
TermsDeposit, cancellation, and what happens if completion is delayed

If one quote is far below the others, ask why. It may be a smaller crew that will take two days, or it may leave out packing you assumed was included. Our guide to checking a removal firm before you book explains the licence check and the other questions worth asking.

What a good quote includes

Signs Of A Clear, Honest Removal Quote

It is in writing

The quote names the date, both addresses and what is included, line by line.

It follows a survey

The firm has seen the job, so the price is built on facts, not a guess.

It names the crew

You know how many people and vehicles are coming, and for how long.

It shows who you deal with

Company name, address and operator licence number, so you can check them.

We build our quotes at CMR Relocation the same way, with packing, storage or crates as separate lines when you ask for them. Our goods vehicle operator licence is OC1109721, so you can check us on GOV.UK before you book.

Saving money

Simple Ways To Lower What Your Move Costs

  • Clear out before the survey, so you are quoted for less
  • Pack books, clothes and the loft yourself
  • Take apart simple flat-pack furniture in advance
  • Ask if a midweek or mid-month date changes the price
  • Sort parking at both ends, so every trip is short
  • Have everything ready and labelled when the crew arrives

What we would not do is cut the crew to save money. Too few people turns a one-day move into two, and tired lifting is when things get damaged. A well-planned move with the right team is usually the better value in the end.

FAQs

Removal Costs In Manchester: Common Questions

Still unsure about something in this guide? Darrin is happy to talk it through.

Why is there no price list on your website?

Because two homes with the same number of bedrooms can be very different moves. One has a loft full of boxes and a piano; the other has a few rooms and a clear drive. A price list would be wrong for most people. We price each move on its own, and the quote is free.

Is a quote from a video survey as good as a home visit?

For a simple move, a video survey can be accurate if you show every room, the loft, the garage and the outside space. For larger homes, awkward access or valuable items, a visit in person catches more. Either way, the quote should list what the firm saw.

Why do two removal quotes differ so much?

Usually because they are not quoting for the same job. One may include packing, dismantling and materials while the other does not, or one may have sent more crew to finish in a day. Line up the quotes item by item before you compare the totals.

Does moving midweek cost less?

Demand is usually lower midweek and in the middle of the month, which can help with availability and price. But your date is often set by your completion day, so it is not always your choice. Ask your removal firm if a different day would change the quote.

Will the price change on the day?

A clear, survey-based quote should not change unless the job changes, such as extra items, a new address or access that was not mentioned. Tell your removal firm early about anything new, so they can update the quote in writing before the day.
