From Our Broadheath Depot To Knutsford In Minutes
Knutsford is the nearest Cheshire East town to our depot. CMR Relocation works from Broadheath in Altrincham, about 10.7 km from Knutsford as the crow flies. The lorry heads out to the M56 at junction 7, then down the A556 towards the M6, and turns off for the town. On a quiet morning, our crew can be at your door soon after setting off.
The two towns are linked by rail as well. Knutsford station is on the Mid-Cheshire line, which runs from Chester through Knutsford, Mobberley, Ashley and Hale to Altrincham, then on to Manchester Piccadilly. Many people who work in Manchester live here and drive to the M56 or M6 instead. The M6 at junction 19 is just outside the town.
Removals in Knutsford cover a wide range of homes. The town is a historic market town, with old cottages and shops in the centre, grand villas on Legh Road and post-war estates around the edges. Each needs a different plan, and we set that plan on the survey.
The old town
Moving In And Out Of Knutsford's Narrow Town Centre
The heart of Knutsford is two long streets: King Street and Princess Street. King Street leads towards one of the entrances to Tatton Park. It is narrow, lined with old buildings and busy with shoppers, cafés and deliveries. Many of the homes here are flats above shops or small cottages in the yards and lanes behind.
These are the things we check before a town-centre job:
- Where the lorry can stop, and whether loading is allowed there
- How far it is from the lorry to your door, through any yard or passage
- Whether the stairs are steep, narrow or turn sharply
- What time the street is quietest, so we can load without blocking it
- Whether a smaller van would be safer than a big lorry
Cottages here often have low doors and tight stairs. Beds and wardrobes come apart in the room. Boxes are kept small, so the carry is safe on old steps.

Knutsford Housing, From Cottages To Legh Road Villas
Period cottages and terraces
In and around the town centre. Low doors, steep stairs and little parking. Small boxes and furniture that comes apart make these easier.
Legh Road and its villas
The houses on Legh Road were designed by Richard Harding Watt, and they are some of the most unusual in Cheshire. Big rooms and fine furniture call for a larger crew.
Post-war family estates
Built after the war to rehouse families from Manchester. Semis and terraces with gardens. Usually simple to reach and quick to load.
Villages around the town
Mobberley, Plumley and other villages nearby have farmhouses and homes on country lanes. Access needs checking, as some lanes are tight for a lorry.
Cheshire East rules
Parking For A Knutsford Move, And What Cheshire East Allows
Knutsford is run by Cheshire East Council, which takes a clear line on house moves. It will not issue a parking dispensation for moving house. Its guidance says you can already park to load and unload without one.
The exceptions are worth knowing. You cannot load where a loading restriction applies, which is shown by marks on the kerb and a sign. You also cannot load on zigzags at a crossing, at a bus stop, in a taxi bay, on school markings or in a disabled bay.
In the town centre, those exceptions come up more often. Out on the estates and in the villages, a drive or a clear kerb is normal. Either way, we look at the street before we confirm the plan.
One more tip. Knutsford's May Day festival fills the town, and the streets are famously sanded for it. If your move date is close to May Day, check the date first. It is better to move a day either side.
Who moves here
Leaving The City For Knutsford
A lot of people arrive in Knutsford from Manchester and the inner suburbs. They want a market town, open country and Tatton Park on the doorstep, while keeping easy access to the motorways. Others are local, moving from a cottage to a family house, or from a large house to something smaller in the town centre.
Moves from the city often come with a timing gap. You may sell a flat before you can buy, or rent in Knutsford while you look. Our storage at the Broadheath depot fills the gap, in sealed containers with no minimum term.
If you want help with the packing, our packing crew can wrap the whole house. For a piano, our piano movers send at least three people with floor protection. And if you run a business in the town, our commercial moves team works out of hours.

How we work
What Happens On A Knutsford Moving Day
Our crew arrives on time, with the lorry, blankets, runners and tools. We walk round with you first and agree what goes, what stays and anything that needs extra care.
Floors are protected first. Then we wrap furniture and load the lorry in the order that suits the unload. At the new home, every box goes to the room on its label. With our packing service, we also take the beds apart and put them up before we leave.
CMR Relocation has moved homes since 2011 and holds operator licence OC1109721. Darrin runs the company. You can reach him or the team on 0161 478 3639, Monday to Saturday, 8:30am to 5:30pm. Read our reviews and find us on Trustpilot.

FAQs
Knutsford Moving Questions We Hear
Moving in or around Knutsford? Ask us anything about the move.
How close is Knutsford to your depot?
Very close. Our depot is in Broadheath, Altrincham, about 10.7 km from Knutsford in a straight line. That makes Knutsford one of the nearest Cheshire towns we cover, and it means our crew can start at your door early.
Can a removal lorry get into the old streets in the town centre?
Usually, with planning. King Street and the lanes off it are narrow and busy with shoppers. We look at where the lorry can stop, whether loading is allowed there, and how far the carry is. If needed, we use a smaller van to shuttle.
Will May Day affect our move?
It can. Knutsford's May Day festival is a big event in the town. If your move falls on or near it, check the date with the town council and tell us, so we can plan around any closures or crowds.
Do we need a parking permit from the council?
Knutsford is in Cheshire East, which does not issue parking dispensations for moving house. You can park to load and unload without one, except where loading is restricted, or on zigzags, bus stops, taxi bays, school markings and disabled bays.
We are moving out of Manchester to Knutsford. Can you store some things?
Yes. Many people moving from a city flat to a Cheshire house arrive before their furniture plans are settled. Our sealed container storage at Broadheath has no minimum term, and access is by arrangement.
