Removals In Hale And Hale Barns
Removals in Hale tend to be big, careful jobs: large detached and Edwardian homes, fine furniture, pianos and long drives. Our depot is under 3 km away in Broadheath, so the whole day goes on the move itself.
Just south of Altrincham
Hale: Our Nearest Village After Altrincham
Hale sits just south of Altrincham, in Trafford, with Hale Barns to the east towards the M56. Both share the WA15 postcode. The village centre on Ashley Road has independent shops, cafés and restaurants, and a railway station with trains to Manchester and Chester.
The homes are what set Hale apart. Many roads are lined with large detached houses and Edwardian family homes, often behind hedges and gates. Hale Barns has more modern detached houses, many with big plots. These homes hold a lot: heavy furniture, antiques, artwork and often a piano.
That makes removals in Hale a job for planning, not speed. Our depot on Stuart Road, Broadheath, is about 2.6 km away in a straight line, so we spend almost no time on the road. Every hour goes on careful packing and handling.
Larger homes
What Moving A Big Hale House Involves
Large homes have more than just more rooms. These are the things we plan for on almost every Hale survey.
Antiques and heirlooms
Old furniture is wrapped in thick blankets and carried, never dragged. Loose doors and drawers are secured first.
Pianos
Uprights and grands need at least three people. See our piano removal service for how we do it.
Gates and long drives
We check gate widths, turning space and any soft gravel before the lorry arrives.
Art and mirrors
Big frames are wrapped and travel upright, packed so they cannot move in the lorry.
Home offices
Desks, screens and printers are packed so you can work again quickly. We can help with the cabling too.
Garages and outbuildings
Garden furniture, tools, bikes and gym kit all need room on the lorry. Tell us so we bring enough.

Local roads
Ashley Road, The Level Crossing And Parking In Hale
Hale station sits on the Mid-Cheshire line, with a level crossing right by the village shops on Ashley Road. When the barriers come down, traffic on Ashley Road stops and waits. We allow for it in our timings, and we avoid the busiest times where we can.
Most Hale homes have a drive, so parking is rarely an issue. Near the shops and the station it is different: yellow lines and short-stay bays line the road. Hale is in Trafford, so if the lorry has to stop on a restriction, Trafford Council can grant a parking dispensation. You send the council's form to its parking services team at least three days before the move. It only grants one where the vehicle truly needs to be there, and it checks the spot is safe.
In Hale Barns, the roads are wider and the plots bigger. The challenge there is usually the drive itself: tight gate posts, steep slopes or soft gravel. We check these on the survey and choose the right vehicle.
Electric gates are worth a mention. Leave them open on the morning of the move, or give us the code, so the lorry is not stuck on the road. If the drive is shared with a neighbour, a quick word the day before keeps everyone happy. These small details are a big part of smooth removals in Hale, where the house is rarely the hard part and the access often is.
Life in Hale
Why Families Move To Hale And Hale Barns
Hale is a much sought-after place to live. Families are drawn by the village feel, the good state schools nearby and the Trafford grammar schools in Altrincham. Many arrive from Manchester, from elsewhere in the UK or from abroad for work.
The setting helps. Dunham Massey deer park is a short drive west, and the Bollin valley runs along the southern edge. Manchester Airport is minutes away via the M56, which suits people who travel for work. Trams from nearby Altrincham reach the city centre in about half an hour.
Because so many people move here from further away, removals in Hale often start somewhere else entirely. We collect from across the UK and from Europe, with our own vehicles on the UK legs. The local figures further down give a view of house prices and school results across Trafford.
New to WA15
The First Month In Hale: Council, Doctors And Unpacking Slowly
A big house takes time to settle into. These are the jobs Hale newcomers tend to tick off first.
Trafford Council. Hale and Hale Barns are both in Trafford, so council tax, bins and school places all go through Trafford Council, whose main offices are at Trafford Town Hall in Stretford. Tell it your moving-in date as soon as you have keys. Its website lists your bin day by postcode, which saves guessing on the first week.
A doctor and a dentist. Register with a GP practice whose area covers your road. You can do it online, and the NHS does not ask for proof of address. NHS dentists are listed on the NHS website, though places can be hard to find, so start looking early.
Rooms you do not need yet. In a large Hale house, it is fine to leave a guest room or the garage full of boxes for a few weeks. We label every box by room, so the spare room stack stays out of the way while the kitchen, bedrooms and home office come first.
Things for later. Some people keep a few items, such as a second sofa or a dining set, in our Broadheath storage while they decide on the layout. A container a short drive away means you can bring them over when the room is ready.

FAQs
Hale And Hale Barns: Moving Questions Answered
Moving in or around Hale? Ask us anything about the move.
How long does it take to move a large house in Hale?
A large family home in Hale is often a two-day job. On day one our team packs, especially the kitchen, china, glass and pictures. On day two we wrap the furniture, load and deliver. Very large houses, or moves into storage first, can take longer. Your quote will set out the days and the crew.
Can you move antiques, artwork and a grand piano?
Yes. Antiques are wrapped in blankets and handled by the people who wrapped them. Large paintings and mirrors travel upright. For a grand piano we send at least three people and protect the floors first. A baby grand can weigh about 225 to 545 KG, so planning matters.
Do I need a parking dispensation in Hale village?
Most Hale homes have a drive, so no. If your home is near the shops on Ashley Road or by the station, yellow lines are likely. Trafford Council can then grant a parking dispensation for the lorry. Send its form to the parking services team at least three days ahead.
What happens if our completion is delayed?
Our storage is at the Broadheath depot, a few minutes from Hale. If the keys do not come through, we take your things back to the depot and keep them in a sealed container until you are ready. There is no minimum term.
Can you just pack the fragile items and leave the rest to us?
Yes. Many people ask us to pack only the china, glass, pictures and ornaments, then pack books and clothes themselves. We bring the boxes and paper for both.
The streets near Hale station are a conservation area. Does that affect a move?
The area around Hale station was made a conservation area in 1986. That shapes building work, not removals, so you need no extra permission to move. The older roads near the shops are narrower, though, so we check where the lorry can stand and allow for the level crossing on Ashley Road.
