Moving in Rochdale

What Rochdale Moves Look Like In The Roch Valley

Rochdale sits in the valley of the River Roch, with the South Pennine hills rising to the north and east. Much of the town is stone or red-brick terraced streets from the late Victorian and Edwardian years. Around them you find semis, larger houses on the western side and newer estates on the edges. Our removals in Rochdale are planned around that mix, because a two-up two-down on a steep street needs a different day from a detached house with a drive.

We are CMR Relocation, a removal company based at Unit B1, Stuart Road, Broadheath, in Altrincham. Rochdale is about 27 km from the depot in a straight line, a little further by road. That is close enough for a single-day move, with time to load, drive and unpack before tea.

Most people who call us from Rochdale want one of three things. Some are moving within the town. Some are coming from South Manchester or Trafford for more space for the money. Others are leaving for Cheshire or further south. We handle all three, and we price each one on its own.

Neighbourhoods

Rochdale Districts And The Homes In Them

Every part of town has its own access quirks. Here is how we think about four of them.

Bamford and Norden

Larger family houses, many with drives and gardens, on the OL11 side towards Bury. These moves are usually bigger, with more rooms to pack and often a garage or loft to clear. We plan the crew size and the number of trips around that.

Castleton and Balderstone

South Rochdale has long rows of terraces with on-street parking, plus semis and newer homes. Front doors open straight onto the pavement, so we keep the walk from lorry to door short and lay protection on the step.

Spotland, Falinge and Healey

North of the centre the streets climb towards Healey Dell. Some roads are steep and tight for a large vehicle. If we think the lorry can't get close, we tell you at the quote stage and plan a shuttle with a smaller van.

Wardle, Smallbridge and Milnrow

The OL16 side runs out towards the moors and the M62. You get stone cottages, terraces and family homes here. Access is often easier for the lorry, but older cottages can have low doorways and winding stairs.

Parking and permissions

Rochdale Borough Council And Parking On Moving Day

On-street parking in Rochdale is managed by Rochdale Borough Council. The council does suspend parking bays for set periods, and it posts notices of planned suspensions on its website. If your home has bays, a loading restriction or yellow lines right outside, contact the council's parking or highways team in good time and ask what they can do for your date.

Before you call them, ask us how much road the lorry needs. We will tell you the length and which side of the street works best. On many terraced streets a friendly word with the neighbours the night before is enough. People are usually glad to move a car for a morning if they know why.

The same council covers Middleton, Heywood and Littleborough, so the advice holds if you are moving across the borough. It also covers the Rochdale town centre car parks, which can help if a relative needs somewhere to leave a car while they help you.

How A Rochdale Move Runs, Start To Finish

  1. 1

    A free quote

You tell us what is going, where from and where to. We can look round by video or in person. Then we send a clear, written price.

  2. 2

    Packing, if you want it

Our team can pack the whole house the day before, or just the kitchen and the fragile pieces. You can also pack yourself with our boxes and tape.

  3. 3

    The drive over

The lorry leaves Broadheath, runs round the M60 to the M62 and comes off on the A627(M) into Rochdale. We leave room in the plan for the motorway at peak times.

  4. 4

    Loading and the new home

We protect floors, load room by room and unload to the labels at the other end. Beds go up first so you have somewhere to sleep that night.

Getting around

Trams, Trains And The M62 Around Rochdale Town

Rochdale is well linked, which is one reason people move here. Metrolink trams run from Manchester through Oldham to Rochdale Town Centre. On the way they call at Newhey, Milnrow, Kingsway Business Park, Newbold and Rochdale Railway Station. Northern trains from the station go to Manchester Victoria and on towards Leeds.

For a removal, the road links matter more. The A627(M) joins the town to the M62, and the M62 meets the M60 to the south. That gives our lorries a fast run from Altrincham most of the day. In the town centre, the streets around the Town Hall and Rochdale Riverside can be busy, so we time loading away from the school run where we can.

When you are settled, the green spaces are close. Queen's Park, Healey Dell nature reserve and the moors above the town are all a short trip away. The figures below show local house prices, schools and crime, if you are still choosing a street.

  • Keep the tram for yourself and small valuables
  • Let the lorry take furniture and boxes by motorway

Rochdale Removals: Tips Before You Book

The best moves start with a clear list. Our week-by-week moving house checklist covers the jobs most people forget, like meter readings and redirecting post. If you plan to pack yourself, the room-by-room packing tips will save you time and broken plates.

If you are comparing firms for removals in Rochdale, ask each one the same questions so the quotes line up. Our guide to picking a removal firm you can trust lists them. You can also read what our customers say, including our Trustpilot page, before you decide. We would rather you choose us with your eyes open.

Darrin runs the business, and he or the team will pick up your call. He worked in removals for years before starting CMR Relocation in 2011. Call him on 0161 478 3639 or email Darrin with your dates and both addresses.

FAQs

Your Rochdale Move: Common Questions

Moving in or around Rochdale? Ask us anything about the move.

Do you cover all of Rochdale, including Bamford and Norden?

Yes. We cover the whole town, from Bamford and Norden in the west to Wardle, Smallbridge and Milnrow in the east. That takes in the OL11, OL12 and OL16 postcodes. We also move people to and from Littleborough, Middleton and Heywood, which sit in the same borough.

How do you get from Altrincham to Rochdale?

Our lorries leave the Broadheath depot, join the M60 and pick up the M62 heading east. The A627(M) then runs into the middle of Rochdale. We plan the start time around the morning traffic on the M60 so the crew reach you when we said they would.

Can I take some things on the tram and leave the rest to you?

Many people do. Metrolink runs from Manchester to Rochdale Town Centre, so small, precious items can travel with you. Leave the furniture, boxes and anything heavy to our crew. Just keep keys, papers and medicine with you on the day.

Who sorts out parking outside my Rochdale house?

On-street parking is run by Rochdale Borough Council. If your street has bays or yellow lines right outside, speak to the council early and ask whether a suspension is possible. We will tell you how much road the lorry needs so you can give them the right details.

Can you store my things if my Rochdale sale and purchase don't line up?

Yes. We can load your home, keep everything in sealed containers at our Broadheath depot and deliver when your new keys are ready. There is no minimum term, though most people book at least a month.

We are only moving across Rochdale. Do we still need to tell the council?

Yes. Your council tax account moves with you, so give Rochdale Borough Council both dates, the day you leave and the day you arrive. Check your new bin day too, as it can change from one street to the next. Your GP may stay the same if the new house is inside the practice area.
