Middleton, M24

Who Moves To Middleton, And Why

Middleton sits north of Manchester, between the M60 and the M62. It is an old town with a Tudor parish church, St Leonard's, and one of the oldest coaching inns in the area, Ye Olde Boar's Head. Around that old core are streets of red-brick terraces, post-war council estates and plenty of semis.

That mix brings a mix of movers. Young couples buy their first home in a terrace. Families move up to a semi in Alkrington or Boarshaw. Older people move to something smaller near the shops and the bus station. And many people from North Manchester move here for a bit more house for their money. Our removals in Middleton cover all of them.

We are CMR Relocation. Our depot is at Broadheath in Altrincham, and Middleton is about 20 km away in a straight line. That is well within a one-day move, with time to unpack.

Middleton is in the Rochdale borough but has a Manchester postcode, M24. People sometimes find that confusing when they set up council tax and bins after a move. It is Rochdale Borough Council you need, not Manchester City Council.

Which Middleton Streets Need Extra Planning?

Most Middleton moves are straightforward. These are the ones where a little thought before the day pays off.

Langley flats and maisonettes

Langley, in the north of the town, was built as a Manchester overspill estate. It has houses, flats and maisonettes. For upper floors we plan the stair carry and the walk to the lorry.

Terraces near the town centre

Front doors open onto the pavement and cars park both sides. We keep the lorry as close as we can and put protection on the step and hall.

Alkrington and Rhodes semis

Semis with drives are easier for parking. They often come with a garage, a shed and a loft, so ask us to plan for those too.

Hopwood and the town's edge

Newer homes on the edge of town usually have room for the lorry. Some cul-de-sacs are tight to turn in, so we check before we send the larger vehicle.

Parking

Do You Need Permission To Park A Lorry In Middleton?

Usually not, but it depends on your street. Middleton is in the Rochdale borough, so on-street parking is run by Rochdale Borough Council, not Manchester City Council. The council does suspend parking bays on some roads and publishes notices about it. If there are bays, yellow lines or loading limits outside your home, speak to the council early and ask what they can offer for your moving day.

On most residential roads, the answer is simpler. Talk to your neighbours a few days before and ask them to keep the space outside your door free for the morning. We will tell you how much room the lorry needs. Near the town centre and the bus station, roads get busy, so an early start helps.

Our lorries carry floor runners, blankets and a pavement sign. The sign lets passers-by know a removal is under way, which keeps the path safe while our crew carry things in and out.

Settling Into Middleton: Rochdale Borough Council Bins And Services

Because Middleton has a Manchester postcode but a Rochdale council, new arrivals often go to the wrong website. Here is what to sort, and where.

Your bins. Rochdale Borough Council uses four bins. The dark green bin is for general waste. The light green bin with a blue lid takes mixed recycling, such as cans, tins, plastic bottles, tubs and glass jars. The blue bin is for clean paper, card and juice cartons. The brown bin is for food, teabags and garden waste. Check your day on the council's website once you have keys.

Help in person. Middleton Library and Customer Service Centre is on Long Street, close to the town centre. As well as books, it offers help with money, debt and benefits, which is useful if a move has stretched the budget.

Council tax and schools. Both go to Rochdale Borough Council. If your children need a new school mid-year, make an in-year application with the council. For a September start, secondary applications close on 31 October and primary on 15 January.

Your GP. Find a practice that covers your road and register online. No proof of address is needed.

Getting around

How Is Middleton Linked To The Rest Of The City?

Middleton has no tram stop of its own. Most people get into Manchester by bus from Middleton bus station, which takes about half an hour. The nearest trains run from Mills Hill station, about a mile east of the centre, on the line to Manchester Victoria and Rochdale.

By road, the town is very well placed. The M60 passes to the south and the M62 to the north, so Bury, Oldham and Rochdale are all close. That makes Middleton a good base if you work across the north of Greater Manchester. It also makes removals in Middleton quick to reach for our lorries from Altrincham.

Green space is close by too. Alkrington Woods runs through the south of the town, Tandle Hill Country Park is to the north, and Heaton Park is just over the M60. If you are still choosing a street, the local figures below show house prices, schools and crime for the area.

Advice

How Should You Get Ready For A Middleton Move?

Start with the dates. If you are in a chain, book us as soon as you have a rough date, then confirm when contracts exchange. Fridays and month ends fill up first. Our guide on choosing the right moving day explains why.

Next, sort what you are taking. A smaller home means less space, so give, sell or recycle early. Our step-by-step checklist for moving house breaks the weeks down into simple jobs. When you start packing, the packing advice from our crew shows how to wrap plates, glasses and pictures.

Finally, get two or three quotes and compare them fairly. Our page on what affects the price of a removal explains what goes into a quote, so you know what to ask.

On the day itself, keep a bag with you for the first night: phone chargers, medicines, a change of clothes, the kettle and some snacks. Children often settle faster if their own bedding and a favourite toy come off the lorry first. Tell our crew and we will load those last so they come off first.

FAQs

Moving Home In Middleton: Questions Answered

Moving in or around Middleton? Ask us anything about the move.

Is Middleton part of Manchester or Rochdale?

Middleton has a Manchester postcode, M24, but it is in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale. That means Rochdale Borough Council deals with parking, bins and council tax. It is worth knowing when you set up your new accounts after the move.

How long does it take your lorry to reach Middleton?

Middleton is about 20 km from our Broadheath depot in a straight line. Our lorries take the M60 round the north of Manchester, which passes the south side of the town. On a normal morning that is a short run, and we plan around the busiest times.

Do you move people from the Langley estate?

Yes. We cover every part of Middleton, including Langley, Boarshaw, Alkrington, Rhodes and Hopwood. Flats and maisonettes need a little more planning for stairs and shared doors, so tell us which floor you are on when you ask for a quote.

Can you just move a few items within Middleton?

Yes. Not every job is a whole house. We can move a few pieces of furniture, a bedroom or a student's things. Tell us what is going and we will quote for that alone.

What if I need to move out before my new Middleton home is ready?

We can collect everything, keep it in sealed containers at our Broadheath depot and bring it to the new house when you have the keys. There is no minimum term.
