Moving in Sale

Why So Many Families Choose Sale

Sale sits on the Bridgewater Canal, halfway between Altrincham and the city. It has three tram stops, the Mersey valley on its northern edge and a good mix of houses. That mix is why our removals in Sale cover every kind of home, from a first flat to a five-bedroom villa.

A lot of the people who move to Sale are trading up. Couples who started out in a terrace in Stretford or a flat in Chorlton often want a garden, a spare room and a place in a Trafford school. Others come from further away for work and pick Sale because the tram takes them into Manchester in about twenty minutes.

Sale is also one of the closest towns to our own depot. CMR Relocation works from Unit B1, Stuart Road, in Broadheath. From there to the centre of Sale is around 4 km in a straight line, up the A56. Our crew knows these roads well, and a short drive leaves more of the day for careful packing and loading.

Sale Neighbourhoods And What They Mean For The Van

Each part of Sale has its own type of house. The house decides how many people we send, how long the job takes and where the lorry can stop.

AreaTypical homesWhat we plan for
BrooklandsLarge Victorian and Edwardian houses, tree-lined roads, some modern flats near the tram stopLong carries up drives, big wardrobes, pianos and antiques. Often a two-day job with packing.
Sale MoorTerraces and 1930s semis close to the shopsParking on narrow side streets. We may ask neighbours to leave a gap for the lorry.
Ashton upon MerseySemis and detached family homes near the Mersey valleyUsually an easy load from a drive. Garden sheds and garages add time, so tell us about them.
Sale town centreFlats, older terraces and homes by the canal and Cross StreetYellow lines and busy traffic on the A56. A parking dispensation may be needed.
Sale WestHouses and flats on a large estate to the westShared parking areas and walkways. We check how close the van can get.

Not sure which applies to you? Tell us your postcode when you ask us for a price. Most of Sale is in the M33 postcode area, and we know where the tight streets are.

Parking and permits

Parking A Removal Lorry In Sale: Trafford Council Rules

Sale is run by Trafford Council. On most residential roads there is no permit needed. The van parks outside your house, the same as a delivery lorry would. Problems start when your front door is on a yellow line, by a bus stop or on a main road.

For those streets, Trafford Council offers a parking dispensation. It gives a named vehicle permission to park where it normally could not, for a set time. The council only grants it where the vehicle really does need to be at that spot. You fill in the council's dispensation form, explain why, and send it to its parking services team. Give at least three days' notice, so they have time to check the location is safe.

  • Cross Street and Washway Road carry the A56 through Sale. Stopping there needs care and often a dispensation.
  • Roads near Sale, Brooklands and Dane Road tram stops get busy with parked cars at peak times.
  • Terraced side streets in Sale Moor may need a polite note to neighbours the night before.

We look at your street on the survey and tell you straight away if a dispensation makes sense. If it does, we tell you what details the form needs, such as our vehicle and the times we expect to be there.

Services for Sale

What Most Sale Movers Book Alongside The Van

Every move starts with a free quote. These are the extras people in Sale ask for most.

Packing for busy families

With work and children, packing a whole house is hard. Our packing team can do one room, the kitchen only, or everything.

Storage between houses

Chains in Sale often break at the last minute. Our container storage in Broadheath is close by, with no minimum term.

Pianos in the bay window

Many Brooklands homes have an upright or a grand. Piano moving uses at least three people and floor protection.

Small offices and surgeries

Sale has plenty of small firms around the town centre. We handle business relocations at evenings or weekends.

Life in Sale

Schools, Parks And The Tram In Sale

Schools are the big pull. Trafford still has grammar schools, and Sale Grammar School is on Marsland Road. There are also well-regarded primary schools and high schools across Sale and Ashton upon Mersey. Families often time their move around the school year, so the summer holidays are our busiest weeks here.

For green space, Sale Water Park and the Mersey valley are on the doorstep. The canal towpath runs right through town and is popular with walkers and cyclists. Waterside, the arts centre by the canal, hosts shows and films.

Getting into Manchester is easy. Trams run from Brooklands, Sale and Dane Road on the Altrincham line. The M60 skirts the north of the town, which helps people who drive to work in Stockport, Salford or the Trafford Centre.

The local figures below show house prices and school results across Trafford as a whole. They are a useful guide if you are still deciding where to buy.

Moving day

How Our Crew Handles A Move In Sale

Before the day, we come out to see the house or do a video call. We note the furniture, the stairs and the parking. Then you get a written quote with everything listed. There are no surprises later.

On the day, our crew lays runners on the carpets and film on the stairs before anything moves. Furniture is wrapped in blankets. If you book our packing service, beds and wardrobes are taken apart and labelled, then put back up in the new house. For a removal within Sale the lorry is often unloading by lunchtime, so you can sleep in a made bed that night.

Moving further away? We also handle moves out of Sale to anywhere in the UK, and to France, Spain and the rest of Europe. Darrin, who runs the business, is happy to talk through a tricky job on 0161 478 3639. You can read what past customers say on our reviews page or on Trustpilot.

Getting ready yourself? Our week-by-week moving checklist and our advice on packing a home will help you start early.

FAQs

Moving House In Sale: Your Questions Answered

Moving in or around Sale? Ask us anything about the move.

Do I need a council permit for a removal van in Sale?

On most residential streets in Sale you do not, because the van can park on the road outside your home. If your home is on yellow lines, such as parts of Cross Street, Washway Road or the roads by the tram stops, the van needs a parking dispensation from Trafford Council. Apply at least three days ahead by sending the council's form to its parking services team. We will tell you on the survey whether your street needs one.

How long does a move within Sale take?

A two or three bedroom semi moving across Sale is usually a one-day job. The drive itself is short, so most of the day goes on careful loading and unloading. Big houses in Brooklands, or moves where we also pack, can run to two days. Your quote will set out the plan.

Can you store our furniture while we wait for a house in Sale?

Yes. Our containerised storage is at the Broadheath depot, about 4 km from the middle of Sale. That is handy if your sale and your purchase do not line up. Your things are loaded into a sealed container and stay there until the new house is ready. Most people book at least a month.

Do you move flats near the canal and the tram stops in Sale?

Yes. Newer flat blocks near Sale and Brooklands tram stops often have lifts and shared entrances. We ask the managing agent about lift booking and where a van can stop before moving day. If there is no lift, we plan the stairs and the number of people we send.

Is Sale a good place for families moving from Manchester?

Many families move out from Chorlton, Stretford or the city centre to Sale for more space, a garden and the Trafford schools. The tram makes the commute easy. The local figures further down this page give a feel for house prices and school results across Trafford.
