Moving Home In Hindley: A Plan Built Around Your Street

Good removals in Hindley start with the street, not the van. A stone-fronted terrace near the station needs a different plan from a 1960s semi with a drive in Hindley Green. So before we quote, we ask about your door, your stairs and where a lorry can stop.

Hindley sits about three miles east of Wigan town centre. Two old roads cross near the middle of town: the A58, which runs between Prescot and Bolton, and the A577, which links Ormskirk with Boothstown. Most of our lorry routes in and out use one of those two roads, so we know where the tight corners and parked-up stretches tend to be.

We are CMR Relocation, a removal company based at Unit B1, Stuart Road, Broadheath, in Altrincham. We have moved homes and offices since 2011. Hindley is a straight drive from the depot, which means our crew arrives fresh and the day starts on time.

Every move here starts with the street: the door, the stairs and where a lorry can stop.

The housing

Hindley Homes: Terraces, Semis And Newer Estates

Hindley grew fast in the nineteenth century on coal and cotton. That history still shapes the houses you move in and out of today.

Victorian And Edwardian Terraces

Rows of brick terraces sit close to the town centre and the railway. Front doors open straight onto the pavement, stairs are steep and turns are tight. We take sofas and wardrobes apart where we must, and we measure the stair turn when we quote.

Post-War Semis And Bungalows

Further out, towards Hindley Green and the edges of town, you find semis and bungalows with short drives. These are easier to load, but loft ladders and garden sheds are often full. Tell us about them so the lorry has room.

First Homes On A Budget

Hindley is known for good-value first homes. Many buyers here pack their own boxes and ask us to carry the heavy furniture. That is a perfectly good way to keep the cost down, and we are happy to quote for it.

Families Moving Up The Ladder

Other moves come later, when a couple outgrows a two-up two-down. That usually means more furniture, a garage to empty and children's rooms to pack. We plan those over a full day, with time to place every room properly at the new house.

The station matters more than you might think on moving day. Streets near Hindley station fill up with commuters' cars on weekdays. If you live close by, a Saturday move or an early start gives the lorry a better chance of a space by your door.

The WN2 postcode also stretches over several villages. A move from Abram to Aspull is still a WN2 to WN2 move, but the two places feel very different by road. We plan by the real address, not just the first half of the postcode.

Parking

Where The Lorry Parks On Hindley's Streets

Wigan Council runs parking across the borough. Its published list of controlled parking zones covers parts of Wigan and Leigh, not Hindley. So on most Hindley streets there is no resident permit scheme to work around.

That does not mean the space outside your house is yours. Wigan Council says plainly that nobody has the right to park on the road outside their own home. On a terrace where every house has a car, the lorry can end up three doors down unless people know it is coming.

  • Knock on a few doors two or three days before and ask neighbours to leave a gap
  • Put a couple of cars of your own outside the house the night before, then move them out on the morning
  • Tell us about yellow lines, bus stops or a school gate near your door when you call
  • If a restriction can't be worked around, we talk to Wigan Council's parking team well before the date

We will never promise a council permit we have not seen. If your street needs one, we tell you at the quote stage and plan around the answer.

How we work

What Our Crew Does On A Hindley Moving Day

Our day starts at the Broadheath depot, where the lorry is loaded with blankets, floor runners, tools and spare boxes. We aim to reach Hindley at the time agreed on your quote. When we arrive, the first job is always to protect your floors and the stair carpet. Only then does any furniture move.

We wrap wood and fabric furniture in blankets. Mirrors and pictures go in card. Beds come apart, and every bolt goes in a labelled bag taped to the frame. Boxes are loaded heavy items first, so the load does not shift on the A577 or the motorway.

At the new house, we place each piece in the room it is labelled for. With our packing service, beds go back together before we leave, so you can sleep in them that night. If something will not fit up a stair turn, we tell you there and then, and we find a way round it with you.

Darrin runs CMR Relocation and worked in removals before he started the business. He or one of the team will talk you through the plan before the day, so nothing about the move comes as a surprise. If you are still comparing firms, our guide to choosing a removal company sets out the questions worth asking. Our packing tips for moving house help if you are doing the boxes yourself.

Hindley And The Towns Around It

Hindley shares borders with Aspull, Westhoughton, Atherton and Leigh, so a lot of moves here are short hops across a boundary. Over the Bolton border, our page on our Westhoughton page covers the town just up the A58. A few miles west, Wigan town and its suburbs have their own parking zones in Swinley. To the south, there is a separate page for terraces and semis in Leigh, the big town on the guided busway. North of the M61, Horwich, below Rivington, is another short run.

You can see every town we cover on our map of the areas we move. If you are moving further, our removals to Europe take in France, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.

FAQs

Hindley Moving Day: What People Ask Us

Moving in or around Hindley? Ask us anything about the move.

Do I need a council permit to park a removal lorry in Hindley?

Hindley has no controlled parking zone on Wigan Council's published list, so most streets need no permit. Wigan Council is clear that nobody has a right to the space outside their own home, though. On a busy terrace we ask you to talk to neighbours a few days before, and if yellow lines or a bus stop are involved we check the signs and, where needed, contact Wigan Council's parking team well before the date.

How far is Hindley from your depot?

Hindley is about 21 KM from our Broadheath depot in a straight line. By road it is a little further, because the lorry uses the motorways and then the A58 or A577 into town. The drive is short enough that our crew can load in Hindley and unload anywhere in Greater Manchester or Cheshire on the same day.

Can you move me from Hindley into a flat in Manchester city centre?

Yes. That kind of move needs a different plan at each end: a terrace with a front door on the pavement in Hindley, then a lift, a loading bay and sometimes a booking slot at the flat. We ask for the building's move-in rules early so the timings work.

We are buying our first home in Hindley. Can you just move the big items?

Yes. Plenty of first-time buyers pack their own boxes and ask us for the beds, sofa, wardrobes and white goods. We price that on its own, and you can add crate hire or a few boxes if you want. A free quote shows exactly what is included.

Can you store our things if the Hindley house is not ready?

Yes. We keep goods in sealed containers at our depot in Broadheath, with access by arrangement and no minimum term. Most people book for at least a month. When the house is ready, we deliver straight to it.
