Removals In Salford Quays For Apartment And Tower Block Moves
Removals in Salford Quays are mostly apartment moves, and the building sets the rules. We book around your concierge, the loading bay and the goods lift, so your move into or out of a waterside flat runs to time.
Waterside apartments
Why A Quays Apartment Move Is Planned Around The Building
In a house, you decide when the van arrives. In a Salford Quays tower, the building decides.
Almost every home around the old docks is a flat. Some are in tall towers. Others sit in low blocks along the water at Anchorage, Exchange Quay and Ontario Basin. Our removals in Salford Quays start with one question: what does your building allow? The answer shapes everything else.
Most blocks have a concierge or a managing agent. Most have a loading bay that holds one vehicle at a time. Many have a goods lift that must be booked for a set window, and some want the lift walls padded before any furniture goes in. Miss one of those steps and the crew can end up waiting in the street while the clock runs.
CMR Relocation has moved homes and offices across Greater Manchester since 2011, from our depot in Broadheath, Altrincham. The Quays are about nine kilometres from us in a straight line, a short run up the A56 through Sale and Stretford. Here is how we plan a move into or out of a waterside apartment.
Ask the concierge
Six Questions To Put To Your Concierge Before You Book
Get these answers early. Your building may need a week's notice or more to book the bay and lift. Pass the answers to us and we will work to them.
- Which days and hours are moves allowed? Some blocks do not allow weekend moves.
- How do I book the loading bay, and for how long?
- Is there a goods lift, and does it need protective padding?
- What is the height and length limit for vehicles in the bay?
- Do you need the removal firm's details or paperwork in advance?
- Is there a deposit for damage to common areas, and how is it checked?
If you are leaving one Quays block for another, you will need both sets of answers. Tell us both buildings' rules and we will match the timings so the lorry is never stuck between two booked slots.
Moving day
How Moving Day Runs In A Salford Quays Tower
Every tower is a little different, but the order of the day is the same.
- 1
Check In at the Desk
Our crew reports to the concierge, shows any paperwork they asked for and confirms the bay and lift times.
- 2
Protect the Route
We pad the lift if asked, lay runners in the corridor and protect your flat's doorframes and floors.
- 3
Load in Lift-Sized Batches
Crates and boxes go down on trolleys in full loads, so we make fewer trips and free the lift for neighbours.
- 4
Hand Back a Clean Building
Padding and runners come out, the bay is cleared on time, and we let the concierge know we are done.
Lifts and parking
Goods Lifts, Loading Bays And Residents' Parking At The Docks
Goods Lifts
A goods lift takes a sofa upright and a full trolley of crates. If your block only has a passenger lift, we measure the car and doors first, and plan which pieces need to come apart.
Loading Bays
A bay is often booked in a window of a few hours. We size the crew so the load fits that window, rather than asking for more time on the day.
Residents' Car Parks
Your parking space is for your car. Underground car parks are often too low for a lorry, so we do not plan to use them.
Street Parking
Where there is no bay, Salford City Council can grant a dispensation for yellow lines through MiPermit, with at least 24 hours' notice.
For a longer stay on the street, the council also offers a suspension, with cones and notices put out by its contractors. That needs at least 72 hours' notice, not counting weekends, and is requested by email to Salford parking services. We tell you which option fits your block when we quote.
MediaCityUK
Moving To A Flat By MediaCityUK And The Lowry
MediaCityUK is home to the BBC in the north and to a campus of the University of Salford. A lot of people move to the Quays for work there, and many come from outside Greater Manchester. Often they are moving a one or two-bed flat, with a desk, screens and a lot of tech.
We wrap screens and computers on their own and keep their cables bagged and labelled. If you work from home, tell us which room is your office and we will set it up first, so you can log on that evening. For larger kit, our IT disconnect and reconnect team handles it in-house.
The plaza and the walkways around the media offices are busy on weekdays. Our crew keeps doorways clear and never leaves a trolley in a public walkway. Weekday moves can be simpler for the bay, but if your building allows Saturday moves, the area is often quieter.
Some media companies move whole teams here. If your business is relocating to an office at the Quays, see our office relocation service and the case studies from AVEVA, Meridian and Z+F.
Getting around
Tram Stops, Roads And Postcodes Across The Quays
| Need | What is at the Quays |
|---|---|
| Metrolink | The Eccles line stops at Exchange Quay, Salford Quays, Anchorage, Harbour City and Broadway, with a short spur to MediaCityUK |
| Roads | The M602 ends near Regent Road, and Trafford Road (the A5063) runs south over the water towards Old Trafford |
| Postcodes | Mainly M50, with parts of Ordsall in M5 |
| Our depot | Broadheath, Altrincham WA14, about nine kilometres south |
Because the tram runs right past many blocks, the roads near the stops can be narrow at the kerb. We check the approach to your loading bay on a map before the day. If the bay entrance is tight, we bring the right vehicle for it rather than finding out at the barrier.
Packing for a flat
Downsizing From A House Into A Quays Apartment
Moving from a house into a flat means deciding what comes with you. Measure the new rooms early. A dining table for eight will not fit a waterside living room. Large wardrobes may not fit the lift. It is better to know before moving day than to find out at the lift doors.
Anything that does not fit can go into our container storage in Broadheath while you decide. Items you no longer want can go to charity first, through our furniture clearance and recycling. If you have a piano, ask us early, because a piano in a tower needs a lift plan; our specialist piano moves always use at least three people.
Crates work well in lifts because they stack square and do not crush. Our plastic crate rental arrives at least ten days before the move. If you would like us to do the packing, our full packing team can do it the day before.

Nearby Areas If The Quays Is Not The Right Fit
Some people want a house rather than a flat but still want to be near the water. Others want a garden. The neighbours of the Quays offer both.
The rest of the city has terraces and student houses, covered on our Salford city removals page. Eccles is one tram ride west, with semis and its own train station. Over the Ship Canal, Stretford in Trafford has family houses close to Old Trafford. Manchester city centre is a few stops east, with more towers of its own. FAQs
Salford Quays Apartment Moves: Common Questions
Moving in or around Salford Quays? Ask us anything about the move.
Who do I need to speak to in my Salford Quays building before moving day?
Start with the concierge desk or the managing agent. Ask for the move-in or move-out rules, how to book the loading bay and the goods lift, which hours moves are allowed, and whether they need our details in advance. Send us what they give you and we will plan the day around it.
Can your lorry park in the underground car park of my block?
Usually not. Many basement car parks have low headroom that suits cars, not removal lorries. The loading bay is the normal place to park. If your block has no bay, we look at the street outside and whether a council dispensation is needed for yellow lines.
What happens if the goods lift is out of action on moving day?
Ask the building to confirm the lift is working the week before. If it breaks on the day, we talk to the concierge about the passenger lift and protect it. A high floor without any lift can still be done, but it takes longer, so we tell you honestly what that means for the day.
Is MediaCityUK different from the rest of Salford Quays for a removal?
The flats around MediaCityUK work the same way as the rest of the Quays, with booked bays and lifts. The difference is that the area is busy with people working at the media offices on weekdays, so foot traffic near the doors can be heavy. We keep walkways clear and plan the busiest carries outside peak times where the building allows.
Can you store my furniture if my new Quays flat is smaller?
Yes. Many people moving into a Quays apartment come from a house and find some pieces will not fit. We keep the extra in sealed containers at our Broadheath depot in Altrincham, for as long as you need.
